Laser Marking

South Bend Form Tool uses our Signature Laser machine to generate the desired “Marking” effects on the surfaces of customers' products, providing a permanent identification, be it a logo, part number, serial number, etc.

The laser can be set up to mark materials by discoloring the material, leaving little or no tactile feel on the surface marked. This process is used to maintain the surface integrity, while laser marking material coloration is dependent upon the material being marked.

The other laser process is “Engraving”, and when South Bend Form Tool uses our laser to engrave, we vaporize material away from the base material, leaving a tactile depression (perceptible to the sense of touch) on the surface. This method allows for deeper engraving depths to provide a wide variety of visual appeal. This process is used when the material being engraved does not lend itself to the laser marking process, or when the item being engraved needs the added depth for visual appeal, or to apply a color fill to the text or logos to improve the readability when finished. Laser engraving allows materials to be engraved that are normally difficult or impossible to engrave by other means.

We have the ability to receive and work with AutoCAD and SurfCam drawings.  We are also fully capable of receiving other source software such as Catia and converting them over to DWG or DXF files to be used on the production floor.

This process of file conversion allows our machine operators to program any of their CNC machining centers to produce the most elaborate parts in the shortest possible time.
